Off-road quad biking in Tenerife: which routes use tracks

Almost every quad tour in Tenerife climbs Teide on the road. Only 3 of the tours we compare advertise riding on tracks in their listing: on one it is the whole tour, on another it is part of the ride, and on the third it depends on the route you choose.

  • 3 with tracks confirmed in the listing
  • 30-min sections or a full route

The rules

Why Teide tours stay on the road

Teide National Park has a management plan approved in 2025. It treats driving vehicles off the authorised roads and tracks as incompatible with the park, and bans driving on the tracks except for emergencies, patrols, management and the park’s own guided routes. So when a tour goes up into the park, it uses the TF-21, TF-24 or TF-38, which are open to other traffic.

Several listings confirm this even though their URL mentions off-road riding: the Arona one says it is a road experience with no dirt tracks, and one from El Roque that the whole route is on paved roads. That is why we read the terrain in the listing text, never in the title or URL.

What the rules say

Inside Teide National Park traffic may use the TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38 roads freely. Driving on its tracks is banned except for emergencies, patrols, park management and guided routes run by the park itself (plus a few authorised cases such as research or access to private land). Driving off the authorised roads and tracks is not allowed.

Source: Management plan, Decree 182/2025 (BOC no. 240, 3 Dec 2025), sections 6.2.p and 6.3.1 (vehicle traffic and parking), read on 29 Oct 2026.

Tours that mention “tracks” without saying where

These listings mention dirt tracks, trails or rough terrain but do not say where on the route. We do not count them as off-road: if that is what you want, ask the operator before booking.

  • Guided quad tour of Teide from Chío (Momenta Experience): Its summary mentions “scenic tracks” without saying whether they are dirt or where. See the listing

Questions

Questions about off-road quad tours

Can you ride a quad on dirt tracks on Teide?

Not inside the national park. Its management plan lets traffic use the TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38 roads freely and bans driving on the tracks, except for emergencies, patrols, park management and the park’s own guided routes; driving off the authorised roads and tracks is not allowed. The track sections on these tours are outside the park.

How long is spent on tracks?

According to the listings, about 30 minutes on the two Puerto de la Cruz routes; the rest of the ride is on the road. The southern tour is advertised as 100% on tracks, 1.5 hours in total. Two tours from El Roque that advertised track sections on 8 October now say the whole route is on the road.

Is it harder than a road tour?

The listings say so: one rates its northern route “intermediate to high” difficulty and another “medium to high”. Several exclude people with back problems and pregnant women. Check each tour’s requirements.
