Where to start

Choose by what matters to you

Four common situations and where to find the comparison that answers each. What is sold in Tenerife as a “quad safari” is the same guided group tour we compare here, not a different format.

  • You are staying in the north

4 tours start in Puerto de la Cruz, all from the same operator, from €76 per person: Teide by day, Teide at sunset or a northern route with tracks.

    How they differ
  • There are two of you

What changes the price most is whether it is per person or per quad. Only one charges per quad, so two people on that quad pay the same as one. Two on one quad, from €84 in total.

Price for one or two people
  • You want the sunset

14 of 19 have an evening departure towards Teide. It is cold up there and the sunset is not guaranteed.

    Times and what to bring
  • You want dirt, not tarmac

Only 3 routes include track sections, and none inside the national park. Teide tours stay on the road.

The quad tours we compare

Six tours, one for each profile we found in the actual offer: the most reviewed, one priced per quad, one from the north, the most reviewed from El Roque (the busiest starting point), one entirely on tracks and the lowest per-person price.

How we select: of the 23 tours reviewed we compare the 19 with at least 10 reviews and an average of 4.0 or more on GetYourGuide. Full lists are ordered from most to fewest reviews. No position is paid for. Methodology

Before you choose

How to choose your quad tour

Four differences that change the final price and the kind of experience. They are in the listing, but not always easy to spot.

Price per person or per quad

If two of you share a quad, a “per quad” price costs the same as for one rider. A “per person” price is paid twice. What it costs for one or two people

Road or track section

Teide is reached by road. If you want dirt, look for a route advertised with track sections outside the park. Routes with track sections

Daytime or sunset

Late departures aim for sunset at altitude; the ride back has less light and is colder. Bring a warm layer. Sunset tours

Teide by quad

Which route you actually ride

Almost every quad tour in Tenerife goes up into Teide National Park. Inside the park you ride on the road, open to other traffic. 11 listings say so explicitly, some even though their URL mentions “off-road”.

What the rules say

Inside Teide National Park traffic may use the TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38 roads freely. Driving on its tracks is banned except for emergencies, patrols, park management and guided routes run by the park itself (plus a few authorised cases such as research or access to private land). Driving off the authorised roads and tracks is not allowed.

Source: Management plan, Decree 182/2025 (BOC no. 240, 3 Dec 2025), sections 6.2.p and 6.3.1 (vehicle traffic and parking), read on 29 Oct 2026.

When a listing mentions “tracks” without saying where, we do not take it for granted: the card shows it as surface not confirmed.

Requirements

What you need to drive

  • Driver: 18 or over with a valid driving licence (one tour asks for 21). A category B licence covers motor quadricycles (Royal Decree 818/2009, art. 4).
  • The physical card: 4 listings require it and one explicitly refuses provisional, digital licences and copies. Two others, from the same operator, accept a photo of the licence on your phone if you carry a physical ID document.
  • International driving permit: 5 listings mention it, mainly for licences issued outside the EU.
  • Passenger: from age 6, 7 or 8 depending on the tour, sometimes with a minimum height.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a licence to drive a quad in Tenerife?

Yes. Every listing that mentions the driver asks for a driving licence; those that give an age say 18 or over (one asks for 21), and 4 require the physical licence card. Under Spanish rules, a category B car licence covers motor quadricycles from age 18 (Royal Decree 818/2009, art. 4). Requirements for each tour.

Can a passenger come without a licence?

Yes. On tours with double quads the passenger does not drive, and one listing says so explicitly (“passengers do not need a driving licence”). The passenger’s minimum age varies by tour: 6, 7 or 8, and some also set a minimum height of 110, 120 or 125 cm.

How much is a quad tour for two people?

It depends on how the tour is priced. If it is per quad, two people on one quad pay the same as one: €100 on the cheapest per-quad option we have seen. If it is per person, you pay twice: from €84 on the cheapest per-person option we have seen (€42 each). Prices checked on 29 October 2026. See all prices.

Do Teide tours go on dirt tracks?

Not inside the national park: its management plan lets traffic use the TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38 roads freely and bans it on the tracks, except in specific cases. Routes with track sections run outside the park. What the rules say.

Which is better, a quad or a buggy?

It depends on how you want to ride. A quad is steered with handlebars and you sit astride it in the open air, two people at most. A buggy has a steering wheel and you sit side by side with your passenger. We compare both options.

What is a “quad safari” in Tenerife?

It is the trade name some operators use for a guided group tour: you ride behind a guide on a set route with photo stops. It is not a different format from the tours we compare here, and in Tenerife nearly all of them climb Teide on the road.

Can I hire a quad and ride on my own?

We found no self-drive quad hire on GetYourGuide: everything listed is a guided tour that includes the quad, the helmet and the guide. If you are looking for hire elsewhere, see what it involves in guided tour or hire.

What happens if the weather is bad on Teide?

Each operator decides, as stated in its listing. One offers an alternative route towards the coast if Teide cannot be reached, and another offers a northern route if the tour is rescheduled. Check the listing’s cancellation policy before you pay.
